Ruptured AV Fistula – A Vascular Emergency Managed Successfully

A patient presented with sudden bleeding and swelling over a matured AV fistula site in the upper limb. On clinical evaluation, a rupture of the arteriovenous (AV) fistula was diagnosed — a rare but serious complication in patients with long-term dialysis access.

Immediate surgical exploration was performed.

Dissection was done carefully to identify the site of rupture. The damaged segment was ligated, and the rupture site was repaired to prevent further bleeding and restore tissue integrity.
