In patients of chronic kidney disease on maintenance haemodialysis, central venous stenosis is a common occurrence over a period of time. This results from occlusion of central veins of the neck .
Its symptoms include venous hypertension of the affected limb (left hand in the image) resulting in massive swelling.
This can be treated by opening the central neck veins via angioplasty, which then facilitates the blood flow resulting in relief of the swelling and symptoms (right side image)
